If you want to lead you also have to put your feet in the clay

Actually, it came about by accident. I was given less time to get involved in execution and I didn’t want an extra layer of management either, so I started spending more time communicating with the teams about our moonshot. Where do we ultimately want to go? That way I wanted to make sure they were at least moving in the right direction, even though I myself had less and less time to “put my feet in the clay. The discussions were only about direction and priorities and no longer about details. This immediately produced better results. Precisely because I helped give direction, but at the same time gave more room for individual interpretation, the teams began to take more ownership. I learned not to tell teams what and how they should do their work, but to ask them to do so. The creativity of dozens of intelligent people always wins over the loner. In addition, it creates an environment with plenty of room to learn and grow.

This is new leadership

Leading teams by giving them direction, space, resources and trust, in an environment where teams can discover and learn in practice. That’s what the new leadership stands for. All the insights that changed so much for me and the teams, I have been sharing with other leaders for years now. Together we step into the clay with both feet and experience how easy it is to fall into the many pitfalls that also happened to me.

How you too can take the first step toward new leadership?

Steering for value and staying in control with Agile Leadership

You have a packed agenda, but immersing yourself in Inspiring Agile Leadership will give you a head start. In doing so, you are tackling the conclusions of the Agile Business Institute which reports annually, time and again, that Leadership is perceived as the biggest obstacle in an Agile Transformation. And that is completely unnecessary as far as I’m concerned. Together we find the balance of how to steer for value, keep control and also get the most out of teams and individuals. Take a look at the program of Agile Leadership in 1 day, if you want to work on an Agile culture and improve the performance of your organization.

Get to work with your teams quickly

Agile doesn’t have to be complicated at all. Two Agile Kickstart days are enough to get a team started, so that meters are made right away. Together with you as a leader and the team, we formulate a shared vision and goal. Once the expected value has been determined, we work with the team in a new structure and with a fresh mindset to work on that value. Where necessary, we also align the teams. We do this with smart quarterly planning in which leadership also has a major role. Feet in the clay!

Not averse to further Agile deepening?

Does leadership training, like the two-day Agile Kickstart, sound interesting but not enough for your organization? We can also roll up our sleeves and talk about Agile Transformations.
