Is Zoom safe?

From the beginning of the Corona crisis, we immediately switched to online training and coaching. We use Zoom for that, because we believe it is the most user-friendly tool for video conferencing. But is Zoom also secure?

In the spring of 2020, Zoom came under considerable fire for missing a number of issues regarding the security of the video conferencing tool. Zoom has since made a number of security updates and enabled settings to secure a meeting. For more info, see Zoom Security Guide.

To maximize security in our sessions with Zoom, we use the following settings:

• All sessions are password protected. Only participants with this password can enter the meeting.
• We use a waiting room. Participants first end up in a waiting room and must be admitted into the meeting by the host.
• The communication is encrypted.
• The session can be closed when all participants are inside. No one can now enter the meeting.

In addition, we do not discuss or record company-sensitive information in any way. It’s just as safe.

Why we like to use Zoom

Whether you participate in our Scrum Master, Product Owner or Agile Coach training, they are all rete-interactive. That only works if: 1) your video conferencing tool works fast – meaning without delay – and 2) you can use break-out rooms to work in small groups. Zoom masters both very well and works intuitively.
