Soon there are more than 10 post-its stuck to the wall with &#8220;Psychological Safety. With current events like &#8216;Omtzigt position elsewhere&#8217; and the &#8216;gluurapparature of employers&#8217;, we learned beautifully in the following months how not to handle Psychological Safety. But how should it be handled? In this article I give you an overview of <a href=\"https:\/\/scrumacademy.nl\/en\/blog\/tag\/psychological-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">all our articles, <\/a>tips, tools, videos, models and insights that will help you build Psychologically Safe teams.     <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"intro\">In addition, we discuss the following topics in this article:  <br\/><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"#1\">Recognizing Pitfalls in Psychological Safety<\/a>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#3\">The theory behind Psychological Security<\/a>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#3\">Psychological Safety for Scrum Masters &amp; Agile Coaches<\/a>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#4\">Psychological Safety for Product Owners<\/a>;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recognizing pitfalls best avoided<\/h3><a id=\"1\"><\/a>\n\n<p>Chances are you recognize your team(s) in one of the following situations. This is not a disaster, it is the beginning of a new upward trend. Recognize your pitfall, deal with it and follow a <a href=\"https:\/\/scrumacademy.nl\/training\/masterclass-psychologische-veiligheid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Masterclass in Psychological Safety<\/a>, for example. The most common pitfalls in Psychological Safety are:   <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Saying it is psychologically safe, when in reality it is absolutely not.<strong>  Pretending, in other words.<\/strong>  Thus, they no longer recognize what is safe and what is unsafe, causing team members to behave in a wait-and-see manner.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Openly burning down <strong>dissenting opinions<\/strong>. This makes team members think twice about sharing their opinions again.  Result? You are selling yourself short as a team and not highlighting all perspectives of an issue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Punishing mistakes.<\/strong>  In doing so, you beat the creativity out of a team, when it is much smarter to learn from mistakes made.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ignoring<\/strong> or not giving <strong>feedback<\/strong>. Not giving your opinion or completely ignoring it creates a lack of participation that you need precisely to create a safe climate.   <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Poor exemplary behavior.  <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p><br\/>Do you doubt whether your team is psychologically safe and would like to measure it? But perhaps you on the team are doing super well with Psychological Safety, without consciously working on it. What could you tell? Team members are <strong>accepted<\/strong>, you feel the <strong>inclusiveness<\/strong>, there is room to <strong>learn<\/strong>, everyone is allowed to <strong>contribute<\/strong> and the prevailing view in the team is regularly <strong>challenged<\/strong>. That all sounds very nice and inspiring, of course, but what kind of theory is behind it?
